Day Fourteen
We were in San Francisco, CA for the day!
While it was fun to see the city and some of the sites I have always heard about (like the Golden Gate bridge), being in a big city reminded me how much I dislike big cities.
I like the fun things that big cities have, but the traffic in big cities makes me really uncomfortable, and San Francisco was one of the worst I’ve seen. Wes was driving through the city, but I still got a little crazy. It makes me so anxious!
There were so many people walking the streets, especially down by the piers and Fisherman’s Wharf. I can see how you’d be in really good shape living in this city.
We walked along the piers, through Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, and to Fort Mason. We ended up renting bikes at Fort Mason so we could bike to the Golden Gate Bridge.

The bike ride to the bridge was uphill and really tough! We were exhausted once we got onto the bridge, but it was a great view of the city.

After walking about 10 miles through the city (my FitBit currently says I’ve walked almost 22,000 steps today), and biking an additional 6-7 miles, we were ready for some good food!
We first stopped at Ghiradelli Square for a delicious chocolate milkshake (yes, dessert before lunch is sometimes OK in my book).

Then we went to the Boudin Bakery for a late lunch. I got the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl and it was sooooo good! It was exactly what I wanted out of my San Francisco food experience.

The disappointment of the day was that we didn’t get to do the Alcatraz tour. When we got to the ticket office first thing in the morning, tour tickets were sold out for 2 days! Bummer! I guess that’s what happens when you “wing it”.

We could see the island from the pier so that’s as good as it gets for us for now!
