Day Ten
My ankle was a little sore when I walked on it this morning, My awesome husband wrapped it up for me to give it some extra support (we are ultra-prepared and have a first-aid kit in the car). We had a big hiking day planned, so I wanted to be sure I was ready!
We were sad to say goodbye to Moab, UT and Arches National Park. It was beautiful there and we could have probably spent a week exploring the park!
We left Moab around 10am and drove about 7 hours Southwest to the Grand Canyon! I was really looking forward to seeing the Grand Canyon. Actually, I think I was more excited for Wes to get to see it, because I had actually been before when I was younger, but he never had.
We got to the Grand Canyon National Park in the afternoon. (On a side note…we decided to purchase a National Park Agency pass for $80 instead of paying the $10-$25 fee at each park. The pass gets your vehicle into any National Park for 1-year. We figure that it will end up paying for itself on this trip alone, and we will most likely visit more parks this year).
We went to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was pretty crowded! We walked out to a viewing point just inside the park and got our first look! This called for a Grand Canyon selfie!

We were really excited to be able to get the dogs out of the car and take them on a hike! We checked in at the South Rim Visitor’s Center to be sure we knew where the dogs were allowed. Apparently, it is OK to have dogs on any of the rim trails, you just can’t take them into the canyon! Yes!
We walked along the South Rim for a few hours, stopping at different overlooks and viewpoints.

We even managed to get a family picture! 3 out of 4 looking at the camera is pretty good I think.

And I even got a Grand Canyon planking picture for my #pushupandplank challenge!

We saw mule deer all over the place! We even had some walking in front of the car on the way out. They didn’t seem bothered by us humans at all. The best wild animal experience I’ve had so far in my life was on our trip to South Africa, but I always get excited about seeing wild animals!

After leaving the Grand Canyon, we drove about an hour to Flagstaff, AZ where we stayed for the night. We were exhausted and hungry when we got into town, so we picked up pizza on the way and ate in the hotel room. I am always down for pizza so I get excited when Wes actually wants it! Yummy!
