Day Eleven
Today was a very special day because it was Wes’ Birthday!!
It seems like every year on his Birthday we are on vacation. It always makes for an exciting one!
Today we left Flagstaff, AZ and headed to Hoover Dam. The drive from Flagstaff was another one in the middle of nowhere! The land around us seemed never-ending!
This day’s stop ended up being perfect for Wes’ Birthday. The engineer in him was super excited about the Hoover Dam. We took a tour of the inside of the Dam, and while I was a little bored with the technical aspects of how the Dam works, Wes was all about it. It was fun to see him enjoying it.
We saw the turbine machinery of the Dam and Wes was excited to explain to me how electricity works. We even got a picture with the turbines!

We walked across the Hoover Dam, back and forth between Nevada and Arizona (The Hoover Dam sits in the middle of the two states).
While standing on the Hoover Dam, you also get a great view of the Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, and Lake Mead.

It was actually pretty warm on top of the Dam, and it was the first day of our trip that we could comfortably wear short-sleeved shirts.
We stayed for about 2 hours and then headed on to California! This is the last state we will explore before entering our new home-state of Oregon!
At this point in our trip we are looking forward to getting “home” to Bend. But, we are definitely enjoying the roadtrip and all the sites, and we’ve got a lot of fun stuff planned in California!
On our way to Bakersfield, CA for our night stay, we stopped for Birthday dinner. Wes loves Chinese food and I detest it, but since it is his Birthday I wanted him to have it!

Overall, he said he had a good Birthday!
