Did you know that today is #GivingTuesday ? The Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday has taken fire as #GivingTuesday…a global day to help others by giving your time, a donation, or a gift. I think this is a fabulous day and I wanted to celebrate in some way this year, so I came up with this list of 10 companies that always give back that you can choose to support this holiday season!
While you’re busy shopping and buying gifts for family and friends, what better way to do that than to give with meaning?
Receiving far less coverage than deserved are social good companies that, while being for-profit, are focused on maximizing improvements in human and environmental well-being by giving back.
While I realize there are many companies out there that donate to charities (which is equally great), I wanted to focus on the companies who have taken on the one-for-one approach of giving. While you may have heard of the company TOMS, as the pioneer of the one-for-one giving, that gives a pair of shoes to someone in need for every pair of shoes purchased, check out these other companies that are also basing their company on a giving mission.
Bombas sells carefully crafted comfortable athletic socks. They focus on making the best socks, but also give one pair of socks for every pair purchased. The company vision began when the founders read that “socks are the number one most requested clothing item at homeless shelters.” Bombas’ mantra is “bee better”. They have already donated over 1.5 millions socks to those in need. Purchase a pair for yourself or a friend and be a part of the “bee better” movement.
Tree Tribe is an outdoor lifestyle brand that makes cool eco friendly accessories like sunglasses and water bottles. Their mission is to help the planet. For every sale they not only plant 1 tree, but 10 trees! Tree Tribe has only been around since summer 2015 and they have already planted over 50,000 trees! Check out their Tree Map here, and become part of the tribe! Now the question is, who wore them better?
Calling all animal lovers! We can’t forget about those hundreds of animals in local shelters who need our help. Buying your dog or cat food from BOGO Bowl will ensure those furry friends get food too! BOGO Bowl donates one bag of food to an animal shelter for every bag of their high quality dog or cat food purchased. I just learned about this one and I’m excited to get started with Linkin and Story’s next bag of food!
Yoobi, which means “one for you, one for me” sells school and office supplies. For every Yoobi item you purchase either online or in your Target store, a Yoobi item will be donated to a U.S. classroom in need!
I’m not sure how I came across this company’s website, but I have been playing with the “design your own” feature on the website for hours! I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these adorable bags…if I could only make up my mind on style and fabrics! After I watched Rebecca’s video below, I knew I had to have one! Better Life Bags is literally giving a better life to a woman with every purchase. Definitely something to feel good about when purchasing a bag!
With a writer for a husband, it would be a shame if I didn’t like to read. Luckily it has always been one of my favorite things to do. I just love how books can transport me to another world, just for a moment. I was excited to find Better World Books, who donates one book to someone who needs it. So, even if you are a kindle book reader, consider buying a real book sometime and add to the over 10 million books donated by Better World Books!
Nashelle is a local company to Bend, OR so I was thrilled to find out about them and their mission. Through their Fashion Feeding Hunger program, they donate one plate of food to local charity Neighbor Impact, or national charity Feeding America. Their jewelry is gorgeous and I love knowing that with every piece bought, you are helping put food on the table right here in the Bend community as well as families nationwide. You can buy their jewelry on their website, in the Bend, Oregon local store, or at Anthropologie and Nordstrom stores.
While you may have heard of TOMS, you may not have heard of roma. Roma makes the cutest and most functional rain boots. They aim to “give poverty the boot” by donating a pair of boots to a child in need all over the world with every pair of boots purchased. I love my Roma Boots!
Could you imagine not being able to see and being unable to afford a pair of glasses? Well that is a reality for almost one billion people worldwide who lack access to glasses. Warbly Parker is making an impact by designing and producing high-quality affordable prescription glasses while also giving one pair to someone in need with every pair of glasses purchased.
I bent the rules a little but with this one. They don’t have a one-for-one donation set-up, but I felt like it needed to be included on this list. Sevenly focuses on 7 causes to promote and raise funds for each year. They donate 7% of the item sale to the cause campaign for that particular uniquely designed item. Their causes include everything from education to autism to the outdoors. In less than 5 years Sevenly has donated over $4 million!
Whether buying for yourself, or as a gift, how great is it that you can purchase from a company that you know is focused on making a positive impact. Just think how the new purse you bought just gave a better life to a woman in need, or the new pair of sunglasses just planted a tree. Which company will you buy from on this #GivingTuesday?
