The 80 Day Obsession workout program by Autumn Calabrese, the trainer known for 21-Day Fix, focuses on building a firm butt while reducing the waistline. It includes 80 different workouts spread over 13 weeks.
80 Day Obsession Workouts
I have done a lot of different at-home workouts. The 80 Day Obsession workouts are some of the best I’ve done.
I would consider it an intermediate program. It is not necessarily for someone who is brand new to working out, but it is not so challenging that you can’t finish the workouts, at least with modifications.
There are 3 phases of workouts plus 1 “peak week” at the end, which repeats a workout from each phase. Each phase consists of 6 different workouts/week for 4 weeks. The 6 different workouts are:
- Booty
- Total Body Core
- Cardio Core
- Legs
- AAA
- Cardio Flow
My favorite 80 Day Obsession workouts were booty and AAA (arms, abs, ass). The only one I didn’t like was cardio flow, and after the second phase I opted to skip it and do a different cardio workout on the day it was scheduled.
The booty, total body core, legs, and AAA workouts were focused on strength, whereas the cardio core and cardio flow workouts were cardio workouts.
3 Phases of 80 Day Obsession
During the first week of each phase, the strength workouts followed a 2 by 15 pattern, meaning each exercise was done for 15 reps and you went through all the exercises once before repeating them all a second time.
During the second week of each phase, the strength workouts followed a 3 by 10 pattern, similar to week one except you only did 10 reps of each exercise, but repeated them all 3 times.
During the third and fourth week of each phase, the strength workouts followed the 2 by 15 and a 3 by 10 pattern again, except this time the exercises were repeated immediately after the set before moving onto the next set of exercises.
While the program promo boasted that “every workout is different”, the truth is, the exercises are all the same within each phase but the order, rep length, and repetition rate are different for every exercise.
What I Didn’t Like
The only thing I didn’t like about this program was the length of the workouts. The strength workouts were between 40 and 60 minutes, with most of them being 60 minutes in length. I found that to be a little long and harder to commit to. Be aware of that going into it, and if you commit to the program, be sure to give yourself the time commitment it takes each day.
Equipment Needed
Because this is a strength-training workout, you will need quite a bit of equipment (versus a cardio-focused home fitness program). The workouts incorporate a combination of:
- light, medium, and heavy dumbbells
- strength slides
- resistance loops
I used 8, 10, and 12 lb. dumbbells, but found that in some of the leg and booty workouts that I needed heavier weights. In order to make up for this, I used 2 weights at times when the exercise was demonstrated with 1.
You can get the strength slides and resistance loops from Beachbody with this accessory package. Or, if you want to buy comparable versions, I recommend these strength slides and these resistance loops from Amazon.
80 Day Obsession Nutrition
There is a comprehensive nutrition plan included in the program, focusing on timed nutrition and portion control. There is a guide to help you calculate your caloric intake target.
I want to make sure to tell you that I did not follow the nutrition portion of this program, only the workouts. I pretty much ate whatever I wanted throughout the program, including fried chicken and cookies. So, I can’t speak to the nutrition plan.
My 80 Day Obsession Workout Results
My results aren’t measured in pounds, but in performance. This program definitely helped me gain muscle. I did not lose any weight but I didn’t gain weight either so it is easy to tell that I burned fat and gained lean muscle with this program.
My strength improved a lot with 80 Day Obsession. I am up to 20 consecutive push-ups, wheres I could only consistently do about 8 before the program. This gets me closer to one of my fitness goals. I see the most muscle change in my shoulders.
